Rotork’s big valve gearboxes assist the supply of fresh water to Shanghai

Valve gearboxes manufactured by Rotork Gears have been supplied for the operation of giant butterfly valves in a 17 billion Renminbi (RMB) project designed to increase, improve and secure the future supply of fresh water to the city of Shanghai.

The Qingcaosha raw water project will provide a daily supply of over seven million cubic metres (tonnes) of clean water through a network of huge pipelines, the main four with a diameter of 5.5 metres (DN5500). Rotork heavy duty model IW17 worm gearboxes have been ordered to operate butterfly valves manufactured by CVVT (China Valve Technology Ltd) on these pipelines.

Brooks Instrument Launches New Mass Flow and Capacitance Manometer Technology

Brooks Instrument will unveil its new XacTorr CMX0 capacitance manometer, as well as the new EtherCAT capabilities of its GF40/80 mass flow controller at Intersolar North America, July 10-12 in San Francisco. Brooks will showcase these and other mass flow, pressure and vacuum products for the solar and semiconductor industries at Booth 5648.

The Brooks XacTorr CMX family of capacitance manometers provides solar and semiconductor manufacturers with highly stable and repeatable measurements for pressure sensitive processes. The product offers full-scale ranges from 1,000 Torr to 100 mTorr, as well as 0.15% of reading accuracy. With its patented Mark IV sensor the Brooks XacTorr lasts up to three times as long in aggressive processes compared to other capacitance manometers. The rapid recovery feature allows the sensor to recover from large changes in pressure faster than other vacuum gauges on the market, significantly decreasing downtime.

Flowserve introducesn new IPS Beacon Condition Monitor

DALLAS, June 18, 2012 — Flowserve Corporation (NYSE: FLS), a leading provider of flow control products and services for the global infrastructure markets, today announced the launch of its new IPS Beacon™ condition monitoring device at the ACHEMA 2012 World Exhibition Congress on the Process Industry in Frankfurt, Germany. The IPS Beacon is a data acquisition, logging, and visual alert device that is designed to monitor vibration (x-y-z axes) in addition to temperature. Constructed of 316L stainless steel and mounted on top of the bearing housing, the IPS Beacon is standard equipment on the Durco Mark 3 ANSI, Durco Mark 3 ISO and the PolyChem S-series of chemical process pump. Key features include:

  • Three-axes vibration sensor – to measure against overall vibration reading in either acceleration, 0-10 g, or velocity, 0-25 mm/s (0-1 in/s), peak or RMS
  • Temperature sensor – to measure readings from -40 C to 93 C (-40 F to 200 F)
  • 14-day fault indication – to provide extended visual notification of an alert condition even if monitored levels return to normal
  • User configurable to adjust reading intervals and alarms points, as well as options for Take-Away Memory to expand logging capability for up to one year of readings.
  • Easy retrofit capability – can provide a low-cost condition monitoring solution to large populations of rotating equipment and can be installed into hazardous zone areas.

Input / Output Modules from Rockwell Automation Achieve Faster Speeds

Rockwell Automation has introduced new high-speed Input/Output (I/O) modules for its ControlLogix programmable automation controller (PAC) platform that enable faster machine speeds in a wide range of discrete applications.

The Allen-Bradley ControlLogix 24vdc I/O modules, used with the ControlLogix 5570 family of PACs, can significantly improve total System Response Time (SRT) through new hardware technology and peer-to-peer communication capabilities that significantly reduce the time it takes for modules to communicate with the controller. Since SRT equates to the time required for input module response, controller processing and output module response, reducing I/O latency results in higher machine speeds for increased parts production.

National Instruments Releases C Series Engine Control Modules for Rapid Prototyping

NEWS RELEASE – June 13, 2012 – National Instruments today released six Drivven C Series engine control modules, which provide engine researchers with rugged, modular engine-specific I/O for interfacing directly with internal combustion engine subsystems and actuators. Using these modules, which are programmed with LabVIEW FPGA, engineers can rapidly prototype engine control algorithms without having to create custom hardware or request lengthy code changes.

Quote

“The Direct Injector Module from Drivven enabled us to get the piezoelectric injector working well in a very short time,” said Jason King, chief engineer of gasoline engines at Ricardo. “We also created novel injection strategies because Drivven programmed the control aspects easily and quickly. The cost versus capability of Drivven products are superior to anything else on the market.”

Driven C Series Module Features:

  • LabVIEW FPGA drivers: Engineers can easily adjust injection timing and software parameters using an open, intuitive programming language.
  • Modular I/O: Engineers can rapidly prototype all the I/O necessary for a production engine controller
