HMI/SCADA Software and Services Market Driven by New Features, Mobility, and Technology

The global HMI/SCADA (Human Machine Interface and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) software and services market is experiencing good growth and evolutionary change. The marketplace is seeking HMI/SCADA software and services that enable convergence of industrial, building, and energy automation into a single information platform. There is also a desire for integrating HMI/SCADA software solutions with enterprise manufacturing intelligence (EMI) analytics to provide better visibility for all aspects of both plant and factory resource usage, according to a new ARC Advisory Group study.

HMI/SCADA Software and Services Global BusinessThe market is making broader use of HMI/SCADA software visualization to improve business decision making, and distributing real-time data to all levels of the manufacturing organizations through workflow and other complementary technologies. “Many companies are adopting the use of mobile devices, some of which are even owned by their employees as part of BYOD programs, for remote visualization, leveraging thin-client technologies and platforms for HMI/SCADA access from any global location. This trend is one of the driving forces for HMI/SCADA software and services market growth,” according to ARC Vice President Craig Resnick, the principal author of ARC’s “Human Machine Interface Software and Services Global Market Research Study”.

Technip wins FEED contract for proposed new ammonia plant in Louisiana

Technip has been awarded by The Mosaic Company (NYSE: MOS) the front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract, as well as preparation of the corresponding engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) proposal, for a new ammonia plant under consideration by the global crop nutrient company. Mosaic’s preference is to locate the proposed plant adjacent to the company’s existing Faustina fertilizer manufacturing operations in St. James Parish, Louisiana. It would have a capacity of 2,200 metric tons per day.

Mosaic is the world’s largest producer of finished phosphate products, with annual production capacity greater than the next two largest producers combined. The company’s plan is to backward integrate more fully into ammonia production by expanding its present capacity at Faustina. Ammonia is an essential ingredient in the manufacture of phosphate-based crop nutrients.

The proposed design of the plant would feature Haldor Topsøe’ proprietary ammonia process technology that Technip has successfully engineered and constructed in projects for more than 40 years. Technip will also perform the preliminary design work for the plant offsites, utilities, interconnections, and other supporting units for the facility.

Technip’s operating center in Houston, Texas will execute the FEED contract in collaboration with its engineering center in Rome, Italy. The development of the FEED and corresponding EPC proposal began in November 2012; both are targeted for completion by mid-2013.
