Technip acquires Norwegian engineering company Ingenium AS

Technip announces the acquisition of Ingenium AS, a highly-experienced offshore engineering and services contractor located in Oslo, Norway. Ingenium AS designs and develops mechanical and electro-hydraulic tools and equipment, for the offshore oil and gas industry, and provides engineering services for marine operations, such as the installation of pipes and cables. Comprising over 20 highly-skilled engineers in the subsea business, the umbilical lay spread on the North Sea Giant, for the Goliat project, in 2012 is one of their recent achievements.

Odd Strømsnes, Managing Director of Technip in Norway, declared: “Ingenium brings a team with solid experience and engineering capabilities that reinforces Technip’s presence in one of the Group’s key markets. Technip has a long history of working on projects with Ingenium, we are thrilled that they will be joining the Group and complementing our competencies to accompany us in taking it further.”

ABB to provide process analyzers for Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass LNG project

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, today announced that it has been chosen to supply process analyzers, system integration and related services for Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass LNG (liquefied natural gas) export facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.

Located four miles from the Gulf Coast in southwest Louisiana, the new export facility is currently being built by EPC contractor Bechtel as an expansion of Cheniere’s existing Sabine Pass natural gas storage and import terminal. When completed, it will be able to accommodate up to four LNG trains capable of processing approximately 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day (Bcf/d) to liquefy the gas for transport and potential export. The initial project under construction includes two trains with a liquefaction capacity of 1 Bcf/d.

ABB’s delivery for the project will help to measure and control the quality of the LNG at all points in the process, by providing precise, continuous online measurements of critical variables as the gas is turned into liquid.

“We are very pleased to be involved in this important energy project,” said Charles Young, head of ABB’s Measurement Products business in the U.S. “Reliable and accurate information will help the customer maintain consistently high product quality while optimizing efficiency and cost during the production process.”

Fluor wins Chemicals Project for BASF in Germany

Fluor Corporation has announced today that it has secured a contract for engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for BASF’s toluene diisocyanate (TDI) Complex project at BASF’s site in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Fluor booked the undisclosed value into backlog in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The single-train, 300,000 metric tons-per-year plant will produce TDI and expand additional plants as precursors for polyurethanes at the BASF site in Ludwigshafen. Production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2014. Fluor has been involved in the project since 2011 performing support services for both the pre-front-end engineering and design (pre-FEED) and the FEED work for this project. TDI is a key component used for polyurethane foams. To a large extent, it is used in the automotive industry (e.g., seating cushion and interior applications) as well as in the furniture segment (e.g., flexible foams for mattresses, cushions or wood coating).

“Fluor continues to expand its long resume for the design and construction of new chemicals plants led from our Haarlem operations center,” said Peter Oosterveer, president of Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals Group.

Fluor’s Haarlem, the Netherlands, operations center will lead the project with support from Gliwice, Poland. More than 800 Fluor craft workers are contributing to the construction of the facility expansion.

CB&I wins Offshore Project in Norwegian Sea

CB&I has announced today that it has been awarded a project valued in excess of US$180 million by HYUNDAI Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI).

CB&I's scope of work, which will commence in the first quarter, includes detailed engineering design and procurement services for the spar topside that is part of Statoil's Aasta Hansteen field development project off the coast of Norway.  When operation begins, the production platform will be the world's largest, capable of producing 812 million cubic feet (23 million cubic meters) of gas a day and storing 160,000 barrels of condensate.

“We are pleased to work with HHI on this landmark project,” said Lasse Petterson, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “The award builds on our extensive work history engineering offshore topsides and our successful track record on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.”
