KBR awarded major Engineering Design Contract by BP for Shah Deniz Stage 2 Project

KBR has announced that it was awarded a contract by BP Exploration (Shah Deniz) Limited to provide detailed engineering and procurement support services for the Shah Deniz Stage 2 Project located in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea. It will be booked into backlog in Q4 2013.

This contract win follows the successful completion of FEED services for Shah Deniz Stage 2 and will be delivered through KBR’s offices in the U.K., Singapore and Indonesia.

“KBR is delighted to continue our longstanding relationship with BP and its partners by taking this world class energy project to the execution stage and follows KBR’s 20 year presence and successful track record in Azerbaijan working with BP on both the Shah Deniz and ACG fields,” said Roy Oelking, Group President, Hydrocarbons.  KBR will provide engineering design and procurement support services for an offshore complex consisting of two bridge-linked fixed jacket platforms as well as an onshore gas processing facility. The onshore facility consists of two gas processing trains with 900 mmscf/d capacity each and condensate processing facilities with about 105 mbd capacity located adjacent to the existing Shah Deniz Stage 1 facilities at Sangachal Terminal. This work will start in January 2014 and run through to 2018.

Technip wins new contract in China and strengthens its worldwide leadership in ethylene technology

Technip has been awarded by CNOOC Oil & Petrochemicals Company Ltd a contract to supply its proprietary ethylene technology and process design package for a grassroots 1,000 KTA(1) ethylene plant in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, People’s Republic of China. This contract also covers technical support during detailed engineering, pre-commissioning and start-up.  Key components of Technip’s ethylene technology for this project include:

  • its Ultra Selective Conversion (USC®) furnace technology preferred for high-capacity, low-cost liquid and gas cracking capabilities;
  • its Advanced Recovery System (ARS) technology utilizing the Heat Integrated Rectifier System (HRS), which reduces energy consumption in liquids cracker designs.

The products of this ethylene plant will feed other downstream units at the complex, including a 300,000 metric tons per annum grassroots cumene plant. The technology for the cumene plant is provided by Badger Licensing LLC(2). Technip’s operating center in Houston (Texas, USA), with the support from the Group’s operating center in Mumbai (India), is currently executing the project. Mechanical completion is scheduled by mid-2015.  Since the acquisition of Stone & Webster process technologies in 2012, Technip has widened its range of services and has reinforced its leadership in the downstream business.

Yokogawa wins Control System Order for Lahendong Geothermal Power Plant in Indonesia

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that its subsidiary, P.T. Yokogawa Indonesia, has received an order from PT. PLN, a government-owned utility in Indonesia, to supply the control system for a project that will renovate the first of four 20 MW power generation units at the Lahendong geothermal power plant, which is located in the Lahendong district on Sulawesi Island.

As part of this renovation project, the system used to monitor and control the steam turbine auxiliary facilities in unit No. 1 will be replaced with the CENTUM® VP integrated production control system. Yokogawa Indonesia will be responsible for engineering, installing, and commissioning the new system. This project is scheduled to be completed by February 2014, whereupon unit No. 1 will be returned to service.

Geothermal energy can generate a stable supply of electricity day and night, and in all weather conditions. Since no carbon dioxide is emitted, it is regarded as an attractive alternative to fossil fuels. However, the systems and instruments used in geothermal power plants must be robust and capable of operating in the presence of corrosive substances and gases. For such applications, Yokogawa provides highly reliable systems that support the remote monitoring, diagnosis, and adjustment of devices in the field as well as a range of products that are suitable for use in corrosive gas environments.

CENTUM VP systems have already been operating for some time in units No. 3 and 4. The solid performance of these systems, combined with Yokogawa's superior technical expertise in geothermal power generation, the quality of its products, and its extensive engineering and service network in Indonesia, were primary considerations in PT. PLN's decision to go with the CENTUM VP solution in unit No.1.

To further grow its industrial automation and control business and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society, Yokogawa is targeting renewable energy fields such as geothermal power. As such, the company will be seeking to expand the provision of its solutions in Indonesia and other geothermal resource-rich countries.

Yokogawa Wins Control System Order for Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in India

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that its subsidiary, Yokogawa India Ltd., has won an order from NTPC Limited in India to supply control systems for the Kudgi supercritical coal-fired thermal power plant.

The Kudgi plant, which is being constructed in the Bijapur district in Karnataka state, will have a total output of 2,400 MW from three 800 MW units. This makes it the largest of NTPC's supercritical thermal power plants, and the units are among the largest of their type in India. These also are the largest supercritical units that Yokogawa have ever supplied control systems for Unit No. 1 is scheduled to start operation in June 2015.

For each of the three units at the Kudgi plant, Yokogawa will supply the CENTUM® VP integrated production control system to control the boilers and their auxiliary facilities, DPharp EJA series differential pressure/pressure transmitters, oxygen and liquid analyzers, a CCTV system, a battery-powered UPS system, and a paging system. Yokogawa India will be responsible for executing the project, including engineering, installation, commissioning, and operator training. This is our fourth control system order for a supercritical coal-fired plant in India, bringing to 10 the total number of systems provided for such facilities in India.

Due to rapid economic growth, Indian power companies have not been able to keep up with rising demand. To ensure a stable supply of electric power, the Indian government is planning to construct many large coal-fired power plants and refurbish a number of aging power plants. Yokogawa India has a long track record in India's power sector, having provided control systems for over 300 captive and utility power plants including those of NTPC, and its engineering and project implementation capabilities are well regarded. In accordance with the government's plans for adding power generating capacity, Yokogawa will now step up its efforts to supply highly reliable products and services to the Indian power sector.

Foster Wheeler wins Technical Services Agreement with OJSC Khabarovsk Refinery in Russia

Foster Wheeler AG (Nasdaq:FWLT) has announced that a subsidiary of its Global Engineering and Construction Group has signed a technical services agreement with OJSC Khabarovsk Oil Processing Refinery to provide construction management services for the hydroprocessing project at the refinery in Russia’s Far East.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed and bookings will be recorded as work is released by OJSC.  The objective of the project is to produce more higher-value, lighter products. The complex includes a hydrocracker, hydrotreater, hydrogen unit, amine regeneration unit, sour water stripper, sulfur recovery unit, vapor recovery unit, waste water treatment unit, ground flare, tank farm and pump houses. The hydrogen plant is based on Foster Wheeler’s proprietary Terrace WallTM steam methane reforming technology.

“Foster Wheeler has been working at this refinery for ten years,” said Umberto della Sala, President and Chief Operating Officer of Foster Wheeler AG. “We executed the front-end engineering design for the entire hydroprocessing complex, basic design for the hydrogen production facility, design and supply of the steam reformers for the hydrogen plant, and have been providing on-going project management consultancy services as the project progressed into the engineering, procurement and construction phases. We are very pleased to extend our role on this project, which is now in the construction phase.”
