Rockwell Automation introduces new Compact Drives

Rockwell Automation today announced its compact Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 525 AC drive to help machine builders and end users simplify equipment design and operation, and speed installation and configuration. Representing the first in the company’s next generation of compact drives, the PowerFlex 525 AC drive features a modular design in power ranges from 0.5 to 30 horsepower or 0.4 to 22 kilowatt at 100 to 600 volt input. Its embedded EtherNet/IP, safety, USB programming, energy savings and a variety of motor control options are ideally suited for machine-level and stand-alone applications or simple system integration.

“Thousands of machine builders and end users told us they want drives that deliver more flexible control, offer better communication, and help them simplify startup,” said Jimmy Koh, global marketing manager, Rockwell Automation. “Our new drive portfolio is designed to give customers the performance they need, while helping to lower their Total Cost to Design, Develop and Deliver machines.”

Suitable for a wide range of applications, including conveyors, material handling, compressors, fans and pumps, the PowerFlex 525 AC drive provides a variety of motor control options to accommodate open- and closed-loop applications.

To help simplify and streamline setup, users can configure the PowerFlex 525 AC drive through its human interface module (HIM), Rockwell Automation Connected Components Workbench software or Rockwell Software Studio 5000 Logix Designer. The PowerFlex 525 AC drive offers time-saving application sets, which are groups of pre-defined parameters for common drive applications that users can apply “as is” or customize for a machine. Using a standard USB connection, machine builders can easily download the completed configurations and share with multiple drives, which greatly speeds up commissioning time.

Saelig introduces USB 3.0 PC Oscilloscope

Saelig has introduced the PicoScope 3207A and PicoScope 3207B, the first PC oscilloscopes to offer a USB 3.0 interface. The PicoScope 3207A is a 2-channel USB oscilloscope with 250 MHz bandwidth, 1 GS/s sampling rate, 256 Msample buffer memory and a built-in function generator. Features include digital triggering for accurate, stable waveform display, and equivalent-time sampling which boosts the effective sampling rate to 10 GSa/s for repetitive signals. The PicoScope 3207B has 512 Msample buffer memory and an additional 32ksample arbitrary waveform generator with 100 MSa/s update rate. Both scopes obtain their power from the USB port, so there is no need for an external power adapter.

Agilent Technologies introduces Expanded Mobile Measurement Portfolio Analytical solutions

Agilent Technologies Inc. has today introduced an expanded line of analytical solutions designed for on-site field use, providing immediate laboratory-quality measurements of a wide variety of samples. The entire portfolio-a package of specially designed GC, GC/MS, FTIR and HPLC technologies-can be used in multiple environments, spanning the breadth of Agilent's chemical analysis platform. These include food safety and quality control, agriculture, forensics, mining, biofuels, chemical, and other environmental and material applications. The complete line of mobile measurement solutions is now available worldwide.

On Feb. 26, Agilent will sponsor a live webinar to introduce the complete mobile measurement portfolio and explore practical applications for these technologies. The webinar will also be available for replay following the live event. To register, visit Mobile Measurement - Lab Quality Analysis When and Where You Need It.

"We are pleased to introduce an increasing range of mobile measurement solutions to our customers around the world," said Ludovic Debusschere, general manager of Agilent's Micro GC Division, and leader of the mobile measurement solutions team. "These exciting mobile devices are specially engineered to enable rapid, on-site screening and analysis with the same precision, selectivity and sensitivity provided by Agilent's laboratory instrumentation."

The complete mobile measurement portfolio features five flagship instruments: the 490 MicroGC, the 1220 Infinity Mobile LC, the 4100 ExoScan Handheld and 4500 Portable FTIR systems, and the 5975T Mobile GC/MSD, available with the 7667A Mini Thermal Desorber. These mobile devices are used to expedite food production and quality testing; measure key parameters for biofuels, oil and gas; perform non-destructive testing of materials; and monitor mining operations. They are also used in homeland security, military and forensics operations for the rapid detection of drugs and explosives, and to enable on-site analysis of environmental samples such as air, water and soil.

Agilent Technologies introduces USB Thermocouple Power Sensors

Agilent Technologies recently announced the Agilent U8480 Series, the world's fastest USB thermocouple power sensors. Based on the same front-end design as the Agilent 8480 and N8480 Series power sensors, the new U8480 Series offers improved specifications, including a measurement speed of 400 readings per second, 10 times faster than the legacy series.

The U8480 Series provides the best accuracy in Agilent's power-meter and sensor portfolio and comes with a power linearity of less than 0.8 percent. As Agilent's first power sensor with the ability to measure down to DC, the U8480 Series covers a broader range of test applications. DC-range measurements are frequently used for source calibration, as power-measurement references, and for testing select electromagnetic compatibility.

With USB functionality, U8480 Series power sensors plug directly in to PCs or USB-enabled Agilent instruments and offer users the ability to measure power without needing an external power meter or power supply. With their built-in trigger function, Agilent's thermocouple power sensors give test engineers the ability to synchronize measurement capture without needing an external module. The internal calibration function saves time and reduces wear and tear on connectors. These power sensors also come bundled with Agilent's N1918A Power Panel software, making the U8480 Series one of the most cost-effective solutions in the company's power-meter and sensor portfolio.

"Thermocouple -based power sensors are known for providing accurate power measurements but with a trade-off of slower measurement speeds," said Ee Huei Sin, vice president, Agilent's Basic Instruments Division. "The U8480 Series overcomes this limitation and offers a significant improvement in measurement speed, making these sensors ideal for users who require high throughput and accuracy."
