Emerson integrates valve position transmitter & HART 7 within its digital valve controller

Emerson’s Fisher FIELDVUE DVC6200 digital valve controller series now incorporates a 4-20mA position transmitter that can also be configured as a discrete switch. Having the valve position transmitter function integrated within the valve controller means that the expense, bracketry, and maintenance requirements of an add-on, accessory transmitter are eliminated.

The discrete switch is a solid state circuit (1-amp maximum) that opens and closes based on a user configurable trip point. The trip point can be based on valve travel anywhere within the calibrated travel range or on a device alert.  The position transmitter is independent from the digital valve controller with the power coming from the control system analog input channel in the same manner as a standard 2-wire transmitter.

The DVC6200 communicates with the latest HART 7 standard. It may also be field configured to the earlier HART 5 standard to match any control system requirement.  With over one million units installed worldwide, FIELDVUE digital valve controllers prove highly suited to a wide variety of industries and applications where they provide unmatched valve operation. The DVC6200 series is offered with CSA, IECEx, and FM hazardous area approvals as well as other certifications/approvals. It is also listed in the Lloyd’s Register for industrial, marine and offshore use.

Brooks Instruments launches new MT3809 Variable Area Flow Meter

Brooks Instrument, a world-leading provider of advanced flow, pressure, vacuum, level and vapor delivery solutions, has launched the MT3809 armored variable area (VA) flow meter, an instrument designed to perform effectively in extreme conditions in chemicals, petrochemicals, oil and gas, and LP gas applications.

The MT3809 provides unprecedented flexibility to use a single flow meter regardless of application, process configuration or flow rate. It works accurately across a vast range of operating temperatures — from -196ºC to 420ºC (-320ºF to 780ºF) — and at pressures to 1380 bar (20K psi). Even in demanding applications measuring gases, liquids and steam, the MT3809 delivers 2% full-scale/1.6 VDI accuracy. The explosion-proof housing meets the most stringent hazardous-area classifications worldwide, and a flameproof option is available for IIC/Class 1 Division 1 locations. For further peace of mind, Brooks guarantees that the MT3809 can be built with specified country-of-origin materials.

In addition to offering flexibility, the new MT3809 can help simplify design and maintenance, reducing downtime and saving money. Installation is fast and easy, construction is of rugged stainless steel, and weldneck flanges provide long-term durability in all configurations. No back pressure is needed for gas applications, and ASME sealing specifications are met with a standard gasket, eliminating the cost of custom gaskets.

NI offers LabVIEW Embedded Control and Monitoring Certification

National Instruments has announced CLED, a new certification option for embedded control and monitoring experts. Engineers with the CLED certification must be NI Certified LabVIEW Developers (CLDs) or NI Certified LabVIEW Architects (CLAs) and have proven technical skill using NI LabVIEW system design software and NI RIO hardware. The CLED certification exams will be available at the end of April.

“At NI, we’re dedicated to making sure that engineers and scientists are successful with our tools,” said Tamra Kerns, director of worldwide services at National Instruments. “The CLED certification confirms that a developer has expertise using our software and hardware for even the largest, most complicated embedded systems projects.”

Highlights

  • Certified LabVIEW Embedded Systems Developers (CLEDs) demonstrate mastery in designing medium to large LabVIEW embedded control and monitoring applications with NI CompactRIO, NI Single-Board RIO or NI R Series hardware.
  • With this certification, companies can easily identify engineers with experience and expertise using the LabVIEW reconfigurable I/O (RIO) architecture for large embedded system projects.

Moxa launches new series of smart serial RS-485 remote I/O

Moxa is launching a new series of smart serial RS-485 remote I/O devices for industrial monitoring and control applications. The smart serial RS-485 remote I/O is the perfect choice for establishing a cost-effective, dependable, and easy-to-maintain process control remote I/O system. Serial remote I/O products offer process engineers the benefit of simple wiring, as they only use two wires to communicate with the controller or other RS-485 devices. Serial remote I/O uses the EIA RS-485 communication protocol to transmit and receive data at high speed over long distances.

In addition to communication configuration by software or USB and dual RS-485 port design, Moxa’s smart I/O devices eliminate the nightmare of extensive labor associated with the setup and maintenance of the automation system. Moxa also offers different I/O combinations, which provide greater flexibility and are compatible with every kind of application.

Features:

  • Dual RS-485 remote IO with built-in repeater
  • Supports the installation of multi-drop communication parameters
  • Install communication parameters and upgrade firmware via USB
  • Upgrade firmware through an RS-485 connection
  • Wide operating temperature (-40 to 85°C) models available

Moxa’s easy-to-use ioSearch software, you can quickly access all of an ioLogik R1200 series device’s status information and settings in a user friendly graphic interface. Furthermore, ioSearch also provides an easy method for updating firmware for all ioLogik R1200 devices over an RS-485 network, so you can even update your firmware remotely. This free and easy-to-use ioSearch softwarewill reduce your maintenance time and labor effort.
