Advantech introduces High Density PCI Express DAQ Cards

To keep ahead of trends within the automation industry, the Industrial Automation Group of Advantech has launched a new range of high density isolated DAQ cards that use the PCI Express interface. These three cards – PCIE-1752 (64 digital output channels), PCIE-1754 (64 digital input channels) and PCIE-1756 (32 digital input/32 digital output channels) - which have a faster data transfer rate than standard PCI cards, offer up to 64 channels, do not need special development software and have a maximum output current capacity of 500mA per channel.

Almost unique in the industry, the cards have 64 high density isolated digital IO channels making it possible for users to have the same number of I/O channels but using less space and saving more money and because the digital output of these cards can be as high as 500mA per channel users can use these cards to drive through larger loads than before. All of the cards also include: 70 VDC over voltage protection, 2000 VDC ESD, 2500 VDC isolation protection and will retain their output settings and values after hot resetting the system.

Since these cards use a similar bus type, they can be configured using the same software, DAQNavi, as used for existing PCI cards. To aid in the development of configurations and applications Advantech provide a range of options such as an SDK which works with: Visual C++, Visual Basic, VB.NET, C#, Delphi, BCB, LabVIEW, QT and Java. Also included is the integrated utility, which provides configuration, function testing, documentation and many practical coded examples.

Siemens high-performance power supply for single-phase networks worldwide

Siemens Industry Automation Division has extended its range of single-phase power supplies: The Sitop smart product family has been expanded with three single-phase 24 V power supplies with rated output voltag s of 2.5 A, 5 A and 10 A as well as two 12 V power supplies with 7 A and 14 A. The output voltage of the new PSU100S power supplies is adjustable over a wide range from 24 to 28 V with the 24 V power supplies and from 12 to 15.5 V with the 12 V models. All devices can supply 1.5 times the rated current for five seconds per minute, to ensure problem-free starting for loads that draw a high current. The 24 V versions even supply 120 percent rated current at ambient temperatures up to 45 degrees Celsius.

The power supplies of the Sitop smart product line are designed for standard requirements in automated machines and plants. As for the currently available Sitop smart power supplies, the new single-phase Sitop PSU100S power supplies also feature a signaling contact for evaluating the operating status "Output voltage OK". With widths of only 32.5 mm (24 V/ 2.5 A), 50 mm (24 V/ 5 A and 12 V/ 7 A) and 70 mm (24 V/ 10 A and 12 V/ 14 A) and no sideways clearance requirements, the power supplies require less space on the mounting rail. These slim power supplies feature automatic range switching for connection to 120 V and 230 V supply systems worldwide. A radio suppression level of Class B and line harmonic limiting also permit use on the public low-voltage grid. Certification for GL (Germanische Lloyd) for shipbuilding and ATEX (Atmosphère Explosive) for hazardous environments ensure that the power supplies can be used universally.

STARDOM FCN Autonomous Controller Certified as Flow Computer

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that the STARDOM FCN autonomous controller has been certified for use as a flow computer by Measurement Canada. This certification is based on the determination that the STARDOM FCN autonomous controller has the same accuracy as a conventional flow computer.

In recent years, attention has turned to natural gas because it is a clean and safe energy source. As ever more gas wells are brought on-line, the management of production volume becomes a challenge. While conventional flow computers meet all metering requirements, there is a trend now toward embedding this functionality in PLCs and RTUs, which are highly valued for their durable construction and versatile control capabilities.

In addition to conventional analog transmitter signals, which can be affected by noise and variations in the ambient temperature, the STARDOM FCN autonomous controller supports field digital communication protocols such as HART, Modbus, and FOUNDATION™ fieldbus fieldbus for use with a wide range of transmitters. Taking advantage of the benefits of digital communications, Yokogawa's PRM asset management system increases maintainability while reducing both engineering time and the cost of monitoring widely distributed facilities.

Rotork New range of compact leak ree high pressure regulators

Rotork Fairchild has launched a new range of compact high pressure pneumatic regulators for instrument and industrial control applications.

The new Rotork Fairchild range features patent pending improved valve seat sealing that eliminates the risk of media leakage often associated with conventional high pressure regulators. In addition, innovative diaphragm designs deliver superior accuracy and higher performance pressure regulation, especially with fluctuating supply pressures.

Constructed with 316 stainless steel bodies, the units are available as the HPD diaphragm design for pressures up to 413 Bar (6000 psi) and as the HPP piston design for even higher supply pressures.

The HPD design features high strength Inconel diaphragms as standard and will accurately regulate output pressures down to 1.66 Bar (25 psi). It is available with the standard polymer valve seat for media temperatures up to 80°C and supply pressures up to 241 Bar (3500 psi). Optional higher performance valve seats are fitted for temperatures up to 260°C and a maximum supply pressure of 413 Bar (6000 psi). The all-stainless steel HPP piston design models will also handle temperatures up to 260°C and increase the supply pressure capability to 689 Bar (10,000 psi).

New Dual-Port EtherNet/IP I/O Adapters Help Improve User Experience

MILWAUKEE, July 2, 2012 — Machine and equipment manufacturers (OEMs), system integrators and end users with demanding applications look to simplify network design while maintaining resiliency. The new Allen-Bradley FLEX I/O dual-port EtherNet/IP adapters from Rockwell Automation achieve this goal – helping OEMs connect machines to their end customers’ IT infrastructures using a single network. With the dual ports, users can also leverage the adapter to display diagnostics via a simple Web browser, helping reduce troubleshooting and downtime.

The new EtherNet/IP adapters support a device-level ring (DLR) topology, which provides robust network infrastructure and extremely fast recovery time, while keeping implementation cost down. DLR infrastructures are connected at the end device versus the switch. With no need for unnecessary switches and cabling, users can reduce design time and simplify implementation.
