Working demo compares electrics with pneumatics to illustrate the true cost of control valve

Rotork Process Controls, at ACHEMA 2012, Hall 8.0, Stand A76., will be demonstrating the benefits of all-electric control valve actuation as represented by the proven and established CVA range and the recently introduced CMA (Compact Modulating Actuator).

A working demonstration unit on the stand compares CVA and CMA electric actuation with the traditional pneumatic approach to illustrate the operating advantages, reduced costs and user-friendly features that are enabled by all-electric control. The demonstration also highlights the hidden costs associated with pneumatic operation.

As well as eliminating the inherent running and maintenance costs demanded by an instrument air supply, Rotork CVA/CMA actuation technologies introduce maintenance-free operation, simple and intuitive set-up, internal position feedback and no recalibration requirement within a reduced overall valve package size and a fully sealed watertight enclosure. The advantages and economies provided by these rugged all-electric ‘fit-and-forget’ products have been proven in environments as diverse as power stations, oil refineries, food factories and mineral plants.

NI Releases LabVIEW Electrical Power Suite for Power Monitoring Applications

National Instruments (Nasdaq: NATI) recently announced the LabVIEW Electrical Power Suite, a new toolkit specific to the power industry. With this toolkit, engineers can combine an NI CompactRIO system for power measurement with over 50 signal and sensor modules.

Rotork launches third generation intelligent non-intrusive electric valve actuators

Rotork IQ3 now introduces new levels of functionality and asset management abilities combined with further refinements to a well-proven and rugged mechanical design. The third generation IQ strengthens the pedigree of a product that has led the way in intelligent actuation technology since its first appearance in the early1990s.

CMA actuator increases the scope of Rotork’s advanced electric control valve technology

Rotork Process Controls has launched a new range of compact, robust and reliable electric actuators for control valves, regulators and other continuous modulating applications. The CMA (Compact Modulating Actuator) extends the scope of Rotork’s proven technologies and the benefits inherent in the innovative Rotork CVA electric control valve actuator range. The CMA range increases the areas of flow control that can take advantage of these advanced features.

The Rotork CMA is available in linear, quarter-turn and multi-turn versions and a range of five compact sizes, facilitating the economical operation of numerous types of control valve, damper and pump stroke adjuster applications. Single-phase or DC electrical power supply is all that is required for control valve actuation, saving the on-going costs associated with the operation and maintenance of instrument air supplies.

The maintenance-free CMA drive train, permanently lubricated and protected in an IP67 watertight and, where required, explosionproof enclosure, can be mounted in any orientation. Accepting an industry-standard 4 -20mA command signal, the CMA delivers accurate and repeatable positional control.
