Yokogawa wins Control System Order for Kamojang Geothermal Power Station in Indonesia

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that it will supply the control system for unit 5 of the Kamojang geothermal power station in Indonesia. The order for this project was received through Tokyo Denki Sangyo Co., Ltd., a Yokogawa sales agent, and was placed by Fuji Electric Co., Ltd., which is responsible for manufacturing and delivering the unit's steam turbine and generator.

This geothermal plant is owned and operated by PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), the geothermal arm of the state-run oil and gas company, Pertamina, and is located in Garut, a city situated approximately 40 km from Bandung City, West Java, Indonesia. Unit 5 will have a 35 MW power generation capacity, and its construction is scheduled to be completed by July 2015, whereupon it will be commissioned and enter service.

For the monitoring and control of unit 5's steam turbine and auxiliary facilities, Yokogawa's subsidiaries Yokogawa Engineering Asia and Yokogawa Indonesia will supply the CENTUM® VP integrated production control system, InsightSuite® AE plant asset effectiveness optimization services, PRM® plant resource manager, Exaquantum™ plant information management system (PIMS), and a plant operation training simulator. In addition to being responsible for the delivery of these systems, these companies will provide support during the engineering and commissioning phases.

Unit 4 at this plant also uses a Yokogawa integrated production control system, CENTUM® CS 3000. Completion of the current project will bring to 11 the number of control systems that Yokogawa has provided for geothermal power plants in Indonesia.

Geothermal energy can generate a stable supply of electricity day and night, and in all weather conditions. Since no carbon dioxide is emitted, it is regarded as an attractive alternative to fossil fuels. Indonesia has the world's largest geothermal energy resources and is planning many additional projects to exploit these resources.

To grow its industrial automation and control business and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society, Yokogawa is targeting renewable energy fields such as geothermal power. As such, the company will be seeking to expand the provision of its solutions in Indonesia and other geothermal resource-rich countries.

Siemens awarded major order of Automation and Drives for a new plant in China

Stora Enso is domiciled in Helsinki , and is one of the world's largest forest industry companies. It has awarded Siemens a major order in connection with the construction of a new plant in China. The order covers the drive technology, automation of the entire factory, the complete power engineering systems, and the power generation. The new, integrated production plants for pulp and packaging board are being built in the Chinese province of Guangxi, and the board machine is scheduled to go into operation in the first quarter of 2016. Siemens will deliver an Integrated Drive System with over 160 drives for the packaging board machine, and will also supply the process control system for the plant-wide automation. The order also includes a steam turbine to generate the power, and the power distribution for the entire factory.

Siemens will support Stora Enso with the implementation of this major project. The company placed great value on having an internationally experienced supplier in China that could supply everything from a single source. Siemens is consequently also responsible for handling the entire engineering of the drive and power solutions, the detailed planning, as well as for supervising the installation and commissioning of the electrical systems.

An integrated drive system from Siemens with over 160 drives will be installed in the packaging board machine. It will be over 300 meters long, and produce 450,000 metric tons of board per annum, which will be used to produce beverage packaging, among others. Harmonized Simotics low and medium voltage motors, and Sinamics frequency converters will achieve high efficiency and availability. The optimized components and the well-matched drive train will enable Stora Enso to benefit from a reliable, productive machine.

The power will be generated by an SST-800 industrial steam turbine from Siemens with center admission and an output of 59 MW. Siemens will also be responsible for all the high, medium and low-voltage switchgear, line, power and distribution transformers, as well as the emergency power supply, power monitoring and control system.

Siemens will supply a Distributed Control System Sipaper DCS, the latest generation 8.1 of the PCS7 process control system that will enable the entire plant to be automated. Siemens will also equip all the drive systems, the energy switching and monitoring (ESM), and the steam turbine with the same PCS7 automation system. This will give Stora Enso all the advantages of a fully standardized, factory-wide automation system.

Yokogawa makes agreement with GasSecure to sell GasSecure’s Wireless Gas Detectors

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces the signing of an agreement with GasSecure AS on the distribution of GasSecure’s ISA100 Wireless* based gas detectors through Yokogawa’s global sales network. With this agreement, Yokogawa gains access to GasSecure’s wireless gas detectors and thereby strengthens its lineup of plant field wireless solutions and enhances its support of health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE) management applications. This agreement will also allow GasSecure to gain access to Yokogawa’s global sales and service network and thereby boost the sales of its wireless gas detectors.

With a field wireless system, the field devices at a plant are able to communicate wirelessly with host systems that perform functions such as monitoring and control. Wireless communications offer many advantages, including the ability to install field devices in difficult-to-wire locations and reduced cabling costs.

Yokogawa has been developing a wide variety of ISA100 Wireless compliant technologies and devices such as wireless adapters that allow conventional wired devices to access wireless networks. GasSecure specializes in the development, manufacture, and sale of low power, high reliability wireless gas detectors that are used to monitor for hydrocarbon leaks at offshore platforms, tank farms, industrial plants, and the like. GasSecure’s clients include major oil companies and their products are in wide use around the globe.

Under this agreement, Yokogawa will distribute GasSecure’s ISA100 Wireless gas detectors through its global sales and service network. The growing need to improve plant safety by installing more gas detectors and replacing out of date detection systems is driving the demand for wireless gas detectors, which have the added advantage of eliminating the need for wiring and thus are easier to install and cost less. As such, Yokogawa will be better able to satisfy its customers’ needs by incorporating wireless gas detectors in its field wireless system solutions. At the same time, GasSecure will be able to utilize Yokogawa’s global sales and service network to expand its wireless gas detector business.
