Fluor wins EPCM of Dow Chemical Company's Propylene Production Project

Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced it was awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract by The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) for a propylene production asset project in Freeport, Texas. Fluor successfully completed the front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract thereby setting the stage for this next-phase EPCM project award. Fluor will book the undisclosed value in the third quarter.

"Fluor is excited to be the EPCM contractor for the successful execution and completion of this project," said Peter Oosterveer, president of Fluor's Energy & Chemicals Group. Technip awarded contract for the Gullfaks field in Norway

Technip was awarded by Statoil a contract for the fabrication, installation and tie-ins of flowlines(1) for the Gullfaks South field development. The field is in the northern part of the North Sea, located approximately 190 kilometers northwest of Bergen, Norway, at water depths between 130 and 220 meters.

The Gullfaks South project development will contribute to Statoil’s extensive initiatives on increased oil recovery and consists of two manifolds(2) tied back to the existing Gullfaks South infrastructure by 20 kilometers of new flowlines. This development will be based on the use of direct electrical heating and pipe-in-pipe flowline technology.

Technip’s operating center in Oslo, Norway will execute the contract where offshore construction is scheduled for the first half of 2014. Technip’s spoolbase in Orkanger, Norway, will fabricate the flowlines. Offshore operations will be carried out by vessels from Technip’s fleet including the Apache II pipelay vessel and the new build construction vessel.

Energy Demand to Fuel Global Pressure Transmitter Market

Report by ARC: Pressure transmitter shipments, after returning to pre-recession levels in 2010, saw strong growth in 2011, even besting 2010’s growth by several percentage points. Despite the return to positive growth, risks remain, such as continued economic uncertainty in the US and Europe, and slowing growth in Asia.

“Although the economy is sending mixed signals, the pressure transmitter market will likely continue to see positive growth. Ongoing demand for energy will require more oil and gas, driving up demand and long-term energy prices. Finding new oil deposits is becoming more difficult and those that are found tend to be more challenging to develop and refine, creating significant opportunities for pressure transmitter suppliers,” according to Senior Analyst Allen Avery (This email address is being protected from spambots.
