Yokogawa Employee Wins 2014 IEC 1906 Award

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that Takaharu Matsumoto, a Yokogawa employee, has received the 2014 International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 1906 Award. The IEC presents this award to those who have made a great contribution in its development of standards for electrical and electronic technologies. In 2014, 151 experts from 21 countries were commended, of whom 31 were Japanese. Mr. Matsumoto is the second winner from Yokogawa. The award was presented to him on October 14.

As an industrial instrument specialist, Mr. Matsumoto participated in IEC TC65, an IEC technical committee in charge of the development of standards for industrial-process measurement and control, and was involved in developing the IEC 61987 series, an international standard for industrial measuring instruments. He received this award for his contribution in developing the specification description (list of properties: LOP) for the IEC 61987 series and managing the standard by working together with various device-specific committees.  Yokogawa will continue to be involved in international standardization activities related to measurement and control.

A Superior Alarm and Bypass Management Solution

Free Webinar: Manage Operational Risk With Confidence
Wednesday, November 20, 2013
11 a.m. EST [16:00 GMT]
• Are your operators being overloaded with a large number of alarms?
• Do nuisance alarms clutter and obscure the view of critical and important alarms?
• Would you like to understand how to manage alarms and ensure that operators respond promptly to critical alarms?

Achieve Operational Excellence
As plants run closer to their performance limits, with fewer operators and smaller support staffs, the importance of alarm management to maintaining plant safety is paramount. Steve Elliott from Invensys will discuss how an organization can successfully leverage a new solution to improve operational effectiveness. He'll also examine how the solution moves beyond the traditional safety-instrumented monitoring function and extends into everyday operations, maintenance, and process safety management.
In this webinar, learn how to manage and report operational risk and process safety to achieve operational excellence.
We'll discuss:
• How the solution works
• How it's applied
• Its extension into operations, maintenance, and management
• Its key benefits
• Its impact on ISA S18.1
• Q&A
Who should attend: Operations Managers, Plant Managers, Safety Managers, Engineering Managers, Maintenance Managers, and Engineers

Tank Overfill Functional Safety Webinar

Tank overfilling is a common problem that can have dangerous consequences, particularly for oil and natural gas installations. Fuel, oil or other items going past safe levels in a container can create extremely hazardous conditions. Learn how to use functional safety products to prevent dangerous tank overfilling problems by attending a webinar hosted by Moore Industries on Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. Pacific (12 p.m. Eastern).

The "Logic Solver for Tank Overfill Protection" webinar, presented by Moore Industries Director of Engineering Tina Lockhart, will guide safety engineers through the steps needed to determine the right logic solver for their needs.

While many people assume that a logic solver for a tank overfill protection system must be a safety PLC, in many cases a discrete logic device in the safety loop is sufficient. This avoids the complications and expense associated with a complex programmable solution.
