ISA Automation Week 2013: Learn Industrial Automation and Control improve manufacturing efficiency

In light of ever-increasing pressures to improve the efficiency, reliability, safety and quality of industrial processes, the International Society of Automation (ISA) today announces it will conduct an Industrial Automation and Control educational track at its upcoming 2013 ISA Automation Week Technology and Solutions Event.

“In today’s highly competitive business environment, companies are constantly looking for new and better ways to manufacture their products and become more proficient,” says Jon Peterson, Senior Vice President and co-founder of Seeq Corporation, and the Chair of the Industrial Automation and Control track. “Of course, in paraphrasing the familiar saying, ‘You can’t optimize what you can’t control.’ That’s where process control and industrial automation and control systems come in.”

The Industrial Automation and Control educational track is one of six educational tracks offered at ISA Automation Week 2013, the premier annual event for automation and control professionals worldwide, to be held 5-7 November 2013 in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Leading automation and control experts, authors, innovators and thought leaders across the globe will come together at the conference to demonstrate how to fully leverage the power and potential of automation solutions.

The Industrial Automation and Control track will demonstrate how the proper application of control theory and advanced process control systems can improve manufacturers’ key performance indicators, everything from reducing industrial accidents to boosting profitability. Other essential topics to be covered include quality control, utility optimization, model-based control, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), modern predictive control, loop tuning, simulation and situational awareness in process operations.

“Efficient and effective manufacturing processes are imperative for companies seeking profitability, and efficient, effective automation and control are at the core to modern manufacturing,” Peterson states. “Improving plant safety, through Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) is another important part of the equation. We will have two full sessions that focus on safety.”

In all, nine sessions comprise the Industrial Automation & Control track, including

  • Control Systems Operations
  • Cyber-Security Panel Sessions
  • Oscillations and Algorithms
  • PLC/DCS Configuration, Migration, and Management
  • Accident Prevention and Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Model Based Control
  • HMI Performance and Instrumentation
  • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Work Force Development and Mentoring

Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) Technology Forum

Join the inaugural Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) Technology Forum to be held July 30-31, 2013, in Houston, Texas.

The abundance of natural gas, rising crude oil prices, and environmental regulations have led to increasing interest in Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) processes. New advancements in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FT), Syngas-to-Gasoline plus (STG+), and other GTL technology are leading the development of modular GTL units capable of scaling down production. The ability for small-scale production allows approximately 40% of gas fields to become economically viable sources for GTL plants.

The advantages of the conversion of associated gas through GTL technologies include: the elimination of flaring, the unlocking of constrained oil production, increased revenues and reserves, and the ability for modular units to be relocated when a producing gas well is depleted. Industry innovators like Sasol, Shell and BP have made GTL project announcements/plans, and numerous companies are currently involved in the development of mobile GTL units at well sites and remote refineries.
