Kepware releases new Version of Communications Platform

Kepware Technologies, a software development company focused on communications for automation, has recently announced the release of KEPServerEX version 5.18. Key enhancements offer additional device connectivity and an improved user experience for customers in multiple vertical industries, including Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, and Power & Utilities.

KEPServerEX version 5.18 includes the following key updates:

1. The Media Level Redundancy plug-in now supports a user-configurable triggering mechanism that can initiate failover based on single point value change, quality change, or rate of change. This capability was added to support high-reliability tunneling with Kepware's OPC UA-based tunneling solution.

2. The KEPServerEX platform now allows changes to be made to tag definitions in real-time. These changes apply to existing and new clients, and ensure the integrity of all connected clients.

3. The ABB Totalflow driver now supports liquid Electronic Flow Measurement (EFM) data collection. It also has the ability to retrieve Trend Log files from Totalflow devices (which log real-time data points like flow rates, pressures, and temperatures) and make them available via CSV files.

KEPServerEX version 5.18 also features updates to 32 products, including significant enhancements to the OPC UA Client driver, Advanced Tags plug-in, and Scheduler plug-in. It includes new Fisher ROC and ROC Plus Ethernet drivers for the Fisher ROC Suite, along with additional OpCode support in all ROC Suite drivers. Kepware also recently released ClientAce version 4.0.2.7, a .NET developer toolkit that enables applications programmers to design custom OPC clients.

Rockwell Automation introduces MobileView Tethered Operator Interface for On-the-Go HMI

The mobile terminal gives plant and industrial personnel the freedom to take a machine’s human-machine interface (HMI) with them to make real-time adjustments to out-of-view applications.

The MobileView tethered operator interface is ideal for maintenance tasks, machine setup or calibration activities, and other HMI applications that require the operator to see the machine. The inclusion of a hardwired e-stop button and three-position enabling switch also supports applications that require local safety functionality.

“Between making an adjustment on the terminal and viewing the results on the machine, fixed operator terminals can require a lot of back and forth for personnel, for certain applications,” said Matt Hansen, senior product manager at Rockwell Automation. “The MobileView tethered operator interface puts the terminal in the operator’s hands to increase productivity and safety. Tasks are made more efficient and machines are set up faster.”

The MobileView tethered operator interface complements the Allen-Bradley PanelView graphic terminals, giving manufacturers and industrial operators a range of fixed and mobile terminals for different applications. It also uses the FactoryTalk View Machine Edition (ME) HMI software from Rockwell Automation, allowing users to develop and re-use their software applications across the MobileView and PanelView platforms.

Three cable-length options, ranging from 16.4 feet to 49.2 feet, offer flexibility for different machines and production lines. The MobileView tethered operator interface also uses a 10-inch display with resistive touch screen, 2 GB internal SD card for application storage, and USB 2.0 port for high-speed data transfer. Software assignable functions are available as an option with either a hardwired momentary illuminated pushbutton or three-position key switch.
