Cisco and NI collaborate to introduce Technology Platform for Time Sensitive Networking

National Instruments, the provider of platform-based systems that enable engineers and scientists to solve the world’s greatest engineering challenges, announced today an early access technology platform for Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) as part of its continued commitment to support the development of new standard technologies for synchronization and communications. In coordination with Cisco and Intel, NI is pleased to empower customers to build distributed systems that perform synchronized I/O, code execution and deterministic communication for distributed control and measurement loops, all using standard Ethernet. Engineers are using this platform to help vet the technology in ecosystem activities including the Industrial Internet Consortium TSN Testbed for smart manufacturing. In addition, lead customers are leveraging this technology: the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering of RWTH Aachen University for advancements in next-generation computer numeric control machining, EUV Tech for novel semiconductor processing machines and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) for future electrical grid research. NI’s participation in standards bodies such as the AVnu Alliance, IEEE 802.1, IEEE 1588, Internet Engineering Task Force and OPC Foundation helps impart lessons learned through real-world usage with the goal of creating a common approach for deterministic communication and synchronized timing over standard converged Ethernet.

TSN delivers mechanisms to create distributed, synchronized, hard real-time systems over standard Ethernet. These systems use the same infrastructure to provide real-time control and communicate all standard IT data, powering convergence of control, measurement, configuration, UI and file exchange infrastructure. This is expected to fundamentally change system design and maintenance by offering network convergence, secure control traffic and high performance.

 

Network Extension made Easy with Moxa’s new Ethernet Extender Switch

Moxa is pleased to launch the industrial Ethernet extender switch, IEX-408E-2VDSL2, to address the growing networking extension requirements driven by the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) trend. The IEX-408E-2VDSL2 supports two VDSL2 ports and 6 Ethernet ports for long distance data transmission over twisted-pair copper wiring. This product enables users to leverage existing cables to upgrade and extend their networks quickly as well as reduce costs making it ideally suited to intelligent transportation systems, Oil & Gas, factory automation, and mining industries.

Advantech Launches RS-485 Wireless I/O Module with Cloud Connectivity and IoT Protocol

Advantech’s Industrial Automation Group (IAG) is pleased to announce the launch of their complete series of 2.4G WISE-4000 IoT Wireless I/O modules which will revolutionize the way that data is gathered from remote or difficult to wire locations.
Now Advantech provides a complete wireless I/O solution which includes RS-485 port, analog and digital signal models. This combines the three core functions of data acquisition, processing and publishing into a single I/O module to meet the needs of a wide range of industries such as environmental monitoring, machine monitoring and smart cities.

The new Advantech WISE-4051 is a wireless Ethernet I/O module which can be used without needing to go through a gateway to provide the information. This means deployment is easier because WISE I/O modules can be used to gather the data from any third party Modbus/RTU slave devices and connect to an existing network.

With integrated digital input and RS-485 in same module, the WISE-4051 provides a flexible combination of I/O to acquire digital signal and data from Modbus/RTU slave devices. The RS-485 port of the WISE-4051 can also support data log functions for the data from Modbus/RTU slave devices with time stamp, preventing data loss compared to traditional transparent Ethernet COM ports (virtual COM of serial device server). It makes data more reliable during communication. So it can provide high efficiency data acquisition for smart factories and smart city big data acquisition solutions.

Compared to traditional transparent Ethernet COM ports, data should be polled from the master controller, the WISE-4051 can automatically push data to multiple cloud. The WISE-4000’s Data Logger can send time stamped information to a Dropbox account or a private cloud depending on the configuration and it can also buffer the devices’ data, so that in the event of network failure, no data is lost before it is sent to the administrator. The new Private Server function allows the WISE-4000 series to push data to a specific web server by the RESTful web service, and MQTT protocol with WebAccess. This helps system integrators reduce the effort of acquiring big data.
